{"id":699,"date":"2010-02-23T09:30:53","date_gmt":"2010-02-23T16:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zardra.dimmet.net\/?p=699"},"modified":"2010-02-22T17:33:20","modified_gmt":"2010-02-23T00:33:20","slug":"ravelympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/zardra.dimmet.net\/?p=699","title":{"rendered":"Ravelympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/zrdra\/3885294011\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 10px;\" title=\"Batt &amp; yarn comparison\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3497\/3885294011_54ebfab64f_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>How are your Ravelympics projects going?<\/p>\n<p>I can tell you that they are probably going far better than mine.\u00a0 I have yet to pull out the fiber I decided upon for my spinning project (the superwash Corriedale that was to become socks).\u00a0 Instead, I have been spinning some green batts that were the first to ever come off my drum carder.<\/p>\n<p>I had received some very, very dark green with touches of red and yellow fiber from Deep Color in a swap several years ago (see the yarn to the right).\u00a0 It was one of those cases where I highly doubt my swap partner had read my questionnaire because I had listed green as a color I don&#8217;t like.\u00a0 (It wasn&#8217;t even until everyone was supposed to be finding out who their secret swap partners had been that I realized that my partner had fallen off the planet.\u00a0 Oh well.)\u00a0 So, I had this nice merino that just happened to be dyed a rather unfortunately color.\u00a0 I tried spinning some of it, but hated the color so much that it languished on a bobbin for almost a year and a half.\u00a0 I ended up using it as my first attempt to Navajo ply because I didn&#8217;t care if I completely screwed it up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/zardra\/3763486893\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 10px;\" title=\"Green batts\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2457\/3763486893_39faeb3ddc_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>I had spun less\u00a0 than half of it, so I still had over 2 oz. of this fiber laying around.\u00a0 Then, I finally decided to get brave and try to use my drum carder.\u00a0 I bought an ounce of bright yellow silk from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spunkyeclectic.com\/shop.php\">Spunky Eclectic<\/a>; it was a color called Walking on the Sun.\u00a0 I blended the 2 together and got a much lighter grass green.\u00a0 The silk also add a great feel.<\/p>\n<p>I have been wanting to practice spinning from the fold and these batts seemed like good practice fodder.\u00a0 Next thing you know, that&#8217;s what&#8217;s on my wheel.\u00a0 The problem?\u00a0 I started spinning it back in September, so I definitely don&#8217;t believe it&#8217;s eligible for the Ravelympics.\u00a0 My wheel got put away after I had spun only 1 of the 4 batts I had made because the new puppy showed too much interest in wanting to chew on the treadles, which I just couldn&#8217;t let happen to my beautiful Catherine.\u00a0 When I got the wheel out to begin working on the superwash Corriedale, I saw the silky green bobbin and couldn&#8217;t help myself.\u00a0 The Corriedale was forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>At least my knitting is going okay&#8230; I think. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How are your Ravelympics projects going?
